Paint Cabinet

My wife enjoys Tole painting as a hobby. One thing about this hobby is it has a ton of different paint colors.

I wanted a design that could hold a very high number of bottles, yet could be flexible in case we either wanted to change the storage position of the bottles or simply wanted to replace a shelf. To accomplish this, all shelving is simply slotted in and can easily be pulled out.

I used Macromedia FreeHand as a makeshift CAD program to draw and plan it out. It worked well enough I was able to solve most of my design questions before any material was involved.

At the time I had a coworker who used to do wainscoting and had a lot of experience and tools I lacked at the time for making it. Together, we used my designs and his expertise (teaching me the whole time) to make it reality.

This is a picture of the initial parts after getting them cut to size and shelf-gooves cut. Allen was able to show me some very cool techniques for how to use the router to achieve perfectly straight and evenly spaced lines.

And fully assembled.

Afterwards I used a French cleat to hang it since the weight of this thing is quite significant fully loaded. The cleat can hold close to 200lbs!
