SVG Apple Blossom

WARNING: This SVG may potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. User discretion is advised! (not joking!).

Some of my very first adventures into programming was learning Apple II Basic. I loved playing in both GR and HGR modes! One of the most satisfying effects was a very simple thing - it was to have 4 lines moving in opposite directions where it would weave a fun and pretty pattern on the screen. I would spend countless hours playing with different ways to get it to draw various patterns on the screen.

The Apple II was limited to 16 colors (2 grays so my picker just says 15 color) and a 40 x 40 grid for GR mode. On this version, you can set it to whatever you want for the X and Y Axis! You can also set different refresh rates, how many lines, and how many spaces the line moves between cycles.

Fast forward to today - SVG is an infinitely flexible and powerful way to draw in the browser space. It can be used for:
  • Charts and graphs
  • Games (like Fauxnix)
  • Interface graphics (all the UI components on this site are SVG!)
  • Adding effects to the site (the little sparky things you might have seen are randomly generated SVG lines)
  • Fun nostalgistic stuff like this
