Maroon Bells

Maroon Bells is easily one of the most photographed mountain formations here in Colorado. Even Ansel Adams took a famous photo of this range. If you're going to go to photograph them, I highly recommend doing this very early in the morning - if you arrive in the afternoon they will be back-lit making them difficult if not impossible to photograph well.

Once you take the bus up to Maroon Bells, a sight like this is there to greet you. Truly spectacular.



Here's another shot of the Maroon Bells over Maroon Lake - on a calm day it makes the perfect reflecting pool for the mountain range. That and the canyon walls frame it in quite nicely. It's pretty much a ready-made shot.



If you visit earlier in the year, you might find Crater Lake still filled with meltwater from the snow. It's a minor hike back from the main park area - it's an easy hike, nothing like Hanging Lake but long enough I would recommend bringing water and wearing good shoes.

Again it makes a great reflecting pool for the mountain ranges that surround the area.



Along the way you may see some Columbine. I took this picture back in July of 2003. Just happened to catch a glimpse of them sticking out of that rock and the photo came out quite nicely.
